Roofer invoice example: what a correct one looks like

The example below is a partial re-roof after storm damage: strip and dispose of the damaged sheets, replace battens, supply and install new roof sheeting, replace gutters and downpipes, with edge protection on-charged. The insurer's claim number is in the note, because that is the first thing a loss assessor's office matches on.

Every line has a quantity and a rate. When an insurer checks a roofing invoice against their scope of works, lump sums are what get cut.

Trade-specific rules

GST notes for roofers

Roofing Services: restorations, re-roofs, guttering and repairs, priced per m² or per lineal metre, with scaffold or edge protection on-charged and a lot of insurance work.

  • Sheeting, gutters and flashings you supply carry GST at your charged price. Scaffold or edge protection hire you on-charge is also a taxable line.
  • On insurance work, invoice whoever engaged you (the homeowner, the builder or the insurer's repairer) and quote the claim number. The insurer's GST position is theirs to sort out; your invoice is a normal tax invoice.
  • Re-roofs and restorations nearly always pass $1,000, so the customer's name or ABN must be on the tax invoice.

FAQ

Why name the product and colour?

Because the owner will need it for matching repairs, a warranty claim, or selling the house. One line of description now saves a phone call in five years.

How do I invoice a roof restoration?

Break it into the stages you quoted: pressure clean, repoint or rebed ridge capping (per lineal metre), replace broken tiles (per tile), and coating (per m²). Each stage on its own line.

Should I include a warranty on the invoice?

If you give one, yes. A short line in the note (workmanship warranty period, plus the manufacturer's product warranty) is the simplest record for both of you.
