Free roofer invoice template (Australia)
Roofing invoices get read by more people than most: the homeowner, sometimes a builder, and on storm jobs an insurer or loss assessor. Each wants the same thing: area or length, rate, and what was supplied. This template is laid out for per-m² and per-lineal-metre lines, with safety equipment and scaffold hire as their own on-charge lines.
It is ATO-correct ("Tax Invoice", ABN, GST per line) with a note field for the details roofing work needs: claim numbers for insurance jobs, the product and colour used, and any warranty you are giving.

Trade-specific rules
GST notes for roofers
Roofing Services: restorations, re-roofs, guttering and repairs, priced per m² or per lineal metre, with scaffold or edge protection on-charged and a lot of insurance work.
- Sheeting, gutters and flashings you supply carry GST at your charged price. Scaffold or edge protection hire you on-charge is also a taxable line.
- On insurance work, invoice whoever engaged you (the homeowner, the builder or the insurer's repairer) and quote the claim number. The insurer's GST position is theirs to sort out; your invoice is a normal tax invoice.
- Re-roofs and restorations nearly always pass $1,000, so the customer's name or ABN must be on the tax invoice.
Word, Excel or Google Docs
Using this roofer invoice template in other formats
Microsoft Word
Recreate the PDF’s structure with a 5-column table (description, qty, unit price, GST, amount). Keep the words “Tax Invoice” as the document title, your ABN under your business name, and add a totals block of subtotal / GST / total. Word’s tables won’t calculate GST for you, so double-check every amount: a wrong GST figure is the most common Word-template mistake we saw in real roofer invoices.
Excel / spreadsheets
Excel handles the maths: set GST per line to =ROUND(qty*unit*0.1, 2) for GST-inclusive work, and total to subtotal + GST. The trap is what Excel doesn’t do: it won’t stop you issuing two invoices with the same number, and PDFs exported from spreadsheets often crop columns, so always check the print preview before sending.
Google Docs
Same structure as Word. One advantage: a single master doc you copy per invoice keeps your numbering sequential. One warning: sharing the live doc link instead of a PDF lets the amounts change after sending, so always download as PDF before it goes to the customer.

FAQ
How should a roofer price on an invoice: per m² or per job?
Per m² for sheeting, tiles and restoration coatings; per lineal metre for gutters, fascia, ridge capping and flashings; fixed prices for small repairs. Match the units in your quote so the invoice can be checked line by line.
Can I charge for scaffold or edge protection?
Yes, as its own line, if it was in the quote. It is a real cost of working at height safely, and hiding it in your m² rate makes your rate look high next to a quote that lists it separately.
What should go on an invoice for an insurance job?
The claim number, the property address, the date of the event if you know it, and line items that follow the insurer's scope of works as closely as possible. That is what gets you paid without a second round of questions.
