Tiler invoice example: what a correct one looks like
The example below is a standard bathroom renovation tile job: strip the old tiles, waterproof the wet areas, lay floor and wall tiles the client supplied, and finish with trims and silicone. Every line shows a quantity and a rate, so the builder or homeowner can check it against the quote in seconds.
Waterproofing is its own line with its own note. In wet areas it is the part that fails expensively, and many builders and certifiers want to see who did it and when. If your state requires a waterproofing certificate, reference it on the invoice.

Trade-specific rules
GST notes for tilers
Tiling Services: priced per square metre laid, with waterproofing, screeding, and who supplied the tiles making the biggest difference to the invoice.
- When the client supplies the tiles, your invoice is labour and consumables only. Say "client supplied" in the line description so nobody thinks the tiles are included.
- Adhesive, grout, membrane and trims you supply carry GST at your charged price. Keep the trade store receipts for your own GST credits.
- Subcontracting to a builder? Your invoice still needs every tax invoice element, plus the builder's name or ABN once the total passes $1,000.

FAQ
Why charge removal per m²?
Because it matches how the job was measured and quoted. It also makes a variation easy: if the old tiles came off with half the render, the extra area or rework is its own line.
How do I handle a variation, like an extra niche?
Add it as its own line with a short reference to when it was agreed: "Shower niche 300x600, added on site 12/09 as agreed". Do not fold it into the per-m² rate.
Do I need to show the tile size?
The ATO does not require it, but it is useful. Larger format and small mosaic tiles take different time, and the size in the description explains your rate to anyone checking.
